The Supreme Court has ordered Sunrise Pharmaceuticals and Chombe Foods to refund K3 billion to the government, with interest, within 30 days.
This follows a successful legal challenge by Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda against the initial compensation awarded to the two companies.
The case stems from the July 20, 2011 demonstrations, during which the companies claimed losses in goods and revenue and were subsequently compensated.
However, the Supreme Court has now overturned the earlier decision, ruling that the payment was unjustified.
The two companies are both owned by prominent business tycoon Leston Mulli.
