High-speed crash on I-4 in Orange County leads to federal drug bust

Man, woman face charges after crash near Kirkman Road

ORLANDO, Fla. – A high-speed crash on Interstate 4 in Orange County early Monday led to a federal drug bust, according to authorities.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on State Road 408 near Old Winter Garden Road, but the driver sped away.

A sheriff's helicopter followed the vehicle, which crashed on I-4 west near Kirkman Road.

Deputies said a man was ejected from the car, but he was not seriously hurt. The driver suffered minor injuries, but she's also expected to be OK, deputies said. Both were taken to a hospital.

Officials said a "significant amount" of drugs were found in the car, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was called to investigate.

The man will likely face federal drug charges, and the woman will be arrested by deputies on traffic charges, officials said.

It's not known what type of drugs were found in the car.

Authorities initially said the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration was investigating the incident.
