Yoda, Beyonce and Walking Zombie: DEA intelligence report reveals the many nicknames for illegal drugs

Yoda, Beyonce and Walking Zombie are just some of the surprising names that the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has identified as slang for many narcotics.

And worryingly, some of the drugs - that may look similar but have drastically different effects - have very similar street names.

Fentanyl - a highly potent opoid which can be 50 to 100 times stronger than  morphine is known as dance fever, and MDMA - a psychoactive drug popular at clubs and parties - is known as dancing shoes.

Amphetamines are a potent central nervous system stimulant that are used clinically to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, narcolepsy, and obesity.

But they have also been used recreationally and the DEA intelligence reveals that the drug has an imaginative list of names, including black birds, chicken powder, diet pills, french blues, goofballs, jelly beans, morning shots and truck drivers.

Cocaine is also known as white goat, Yoda, all-American drug, bazooka, double bubble, Florida snow, gold dust and love affair.

While its highly addictive cousin crack cocaine is also known ironically as breakfast of champions, and more descriptively as devil smoke, eye opener, french fries, kryptonite, uzi and white ghost. 

Heroin can also be referred to rather bizarrely as avocado, Beyonce, black goat, Chinese food, dog food, Mexican mud, red chicken, spider blue, tragic magic and witch hazel. 

And psychedelic drug LSD can be found under the names Alice, Bart Simpson, cherry dome, dinosaurs, electric kool aid, Hawaiian sunshine, grape parfait, kaleidoscope, orange barrels, pearly gates, royal blues, sugar lumps, teddy bears and wedding bells.

Xanax, the prescription tranquilliser which is highly addictive when taken over prolonged periods, is also known on the street as bars, ladders, planks, school bus, sticks and Z-bars

And synthetic cannabinoids, drugs which have proved highly addictive and destructive, are also known as bloom, bliss, drone, insect repellant, jewelry cleaner, lunar wave, meow-meow, ocean burst, red dove, scarface, snow leopard, stardust and vanilla sky.

The cough syrup, Promethazine with Codeine, is also known as act, drank, lean, purple, purple drank, sizzurp and syrup.
